Hope Finds Us When We Are Broken
God draws near to those who are broken in heart and crushed in spirit, offering them salvation and hope beyond their pain.

“Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.”
Reflection
Life often brings times of deep sorrow and heartache, moments when we feel shattered and overwhelmed. During these times, it's easy to feel isolated and forgotten. Yet Psalm 34:18 reminds us that the Lord is especially close to those who are brokenhearted and crushed in spirit. This nearness isn't passive but active — He saves, comforts, and heals. Hope isn't the absence of pain but the assurance of God's presence within it. Knowing God draws near in our darkest moments encourages us to bring our deepest hurts to Him, trusting that He is at work to renew our spirits and guide us towards healing and peace.
Put it into practice
Next time you feel broken or crushed, pause and remember God’s promise to be near to you. Invite Him into your pain through prayer, trusting He is close and ready to bring hope and healing.
A prayer for today
Lord, when my heart is broken and my spirit crushed, help me to feel Your nearness. Save me from despair, and fill me with hope that only You can give. Surround me with Your loving presence and restore my soul, I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
